This Privacy Policy explains how Brim (“the App”) handles information related to you.

1. Our Core Principles

Brim is a notes and memo app. We aim to keep your content on your devices and in your own Apple iCloud account whenever possible.

The App currently does not integrate any third-party advertising SDKs, third-party analytics SDKs, or third-party crash reporting SDKs. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your data for cross-app or cross-website tracking.

2. What Data We Process

2.1 Content You Create

Content you create or import into Brim may include:

  • Note text, rich text styling, to-do states, links, and highlights.
  • Note properties such as tags, favorites, pinned state, colors, window positions, and sizes.
  • Images, attachments, or media added through the camera or photo library.
  • Note lifecycle states such as trash, deletion, and restoration.

This content is used to provide core features such as note creation, editing, search, display, sync, trash, and restore.

2.2 Local Settings and Preferences

The App may store the following information locally on your device:

  • Preferences such as theme, appearance, shortcuts, and window behavior.
  • Tutorial completion state, initialization state, and local usage state.
  • Local cached purchase entitlement state, used to preserve access when offline or under unstable network conditions.
  • Local command state written by widgets, Control Center actions, or shortcut entry points.

This data is typically stored in the app sandbox, UserDefaults, or an App Group container on your device.

2.3 iCloud Sync Data

If your device is signed into iCloud and the system allows the App to use iCloud/CloudKit, the App uses Apple CloudKit to sync notes, attachments, tags, trash state, and related metadata within your Apple iCloud account.

iCloud sync is provided by Apple. The developer of this App does not operate an independent server to read or host your note content. If iCloud is unavailable, the App falls back to local-only storage.

2.4 Purchase and Entitlement Data

The App uses Apple StoreKit to handle in-app purchases, including auto-renewable subscriptions and one-time non-consumable purchases. Purchases, renewals, cancellations, refunds, payment methods, taxes, invoices, and transaction validation are handled by Apple.

The App reads transaction state returned by Apple and locally caches necessary entitlement state, such as product identifiers, transaction identifiers, purchase dates, subscription status, expiration dates, storefront country or region code when available, and platform entitlement state, in order to unlock purchased features, restore purchases, and preserve access when offline or under unstable network conditions.

2.5 Camera, Photos, and Notification Permissions

On iOS, the App may request the following system permissions:

  • Camera: to take photos and add them to notes.
  • Photo library add permission: to save images to your photo library.
  • Background remote notification capability: for iCloud/CloudKit sync events, not for marketing notifications.

You can manage these permissions at any time in system settings.

2.6 Feedback and Test Information

If you voluntarily send feedback to us through an in-app button, your system mail client, or other means, we may receive the information you include in that feedback, such as your email address, message content, attachments, screenshots, issue descriptions, and device or system information if you choose to provide them.

If you participate in testing through TestFlight, Apple may provide developers with testing-related information such as feedback, crash logs, screenshots, device model, OS version, app version, and any information you voluntarily submit through TestFlight forms. We use this information only to investigate issues, improve features, and process testing feedback.

3. What We Do Not Process

Unless a future version states otherwise and this policy is updated, the App currently does not:

  • Integrate third-party advertising, third-party analytics, or third-party crash monitoring services.
  • Actively collect precise location data.
  • Access contacts, microphone, calendar, or health data.
  • Create a Brim-owned account system.
  • Send your note content to developer-operated servers.
  • Sell personal information or use it for cross-app or cross-website tracking.

4. Data Apple May Process

When you use the App through the App Store, TestFlight, iCloud, CloudKit, StoreKit, or Apple system diagnostics, Apple may process related data under Apple’s own privacy policies, including purchase records, iCloud sync data, crash logs, device information, and diagnostic information.

These activities are performed by Apple system services. You can manage related options through your Apple ID, iCloud, App Store, and system privacy settings.

5. How We Use Data

We process the data described above in order to:

  • Provide note creation, editing, saving, search, display, and deletion features.
  • Sync your content across your devices.
  • Restore deleted content and manage trash lifecycle behavior.
  • Preserve local preferences and provide a consistent user experience.
  • Verify and restore in-app purchase entitlements.
  • Investigate issues you voluntarily report.
  • Process feedback you voluntarily submit by email or through TestFlight.
  • Comply with legal requirements, platform rules, and security obligations.

6. Data Storage and Retention

Local data is stored on your device until you delete it in the App, uninstall the App, or otherwise clear data through system mechanisms.

iCloud data is stored in your Apple iCloud account. Deleting the App may not automatically delete data that has already synced to iCloud. You can manage that data through in-app deletion features, iCloud settings, or Apple-provided management tools.

Purchase records are stored by Apple. The App stores only necessary local entitlement cache data.

7. Data Sharing

We do not sell your note content to third parties.

In the current version, data sharing mainly occurs in the following situations:

  • Apple iCloud/CloudKit: to sync content across your devices.
  • Apple StoreKit/App Store: to process purchases, refunds, and entitlement validation.
  • Apple TestFlight and system diagnostics: if you participate in testing or choose to share diagnostic data with Apple or developers, Apple may provide testing feedback, crash logs, or diagnostic reports.
  • Email service providers: if you voluntarily send feedback email, the email will be processed by your email provider and ours.
  • Legal document hosting providers: if you open Privacy Policy or Terms links, the hosting provider may process standard web request information such as IP address, browser information, and access time.
  • Legal requirements: if required by applicable law, court order, or regulatory demand, we may process necessary information accordingly.

8. Cross-Border Transfers

If you use iCloud or App Store-related services, your data may be processed and stored in different regions by Apple according to Apple’s service architecture.

The App currently does not use developer-operated servers and does not actively send your note content to third-party overseas services.

9. Your Choices and Rights

You may:

  • Edit or delete notes, tags, attachments, and trash content within the App.
  • Turn off iCloud, camera, photo, and similar permissions in system settings.
  • Delete the App and its local data through system settings.
  • Manage iCloud data through Apple ID and iCloud settings.
  • Manage purchases, refunds, and subscriptions through the App Store.
  • Contact us at feedback@brimmemo.com with questions about data handling related to the App.

Depending on the laws applicable in your region, you may have rights such as access, correction, deletion, restriction of processing, withdrawal of consent, and the right to lodge a complaint. We will reasonably assist with requests related to App data where applicable.

10. Children’s Privacy

The App is not specifically directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the App, please contact us at feedback@brimmemo.com.

11. Security

We rely on Apple platform protections such as app sandboxing, iCloud/CloudKit, StoreKit, and system permission controls to protect data. However, no storage or transmission method can be guaranteed to be absolutely secure. You are also responsible for protecting your device, Apple ID, and iCloud account.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as features, laws, or platform rules change. Material changes may be communicated through the App, a website, or the App Store listing, as appropriate. Continued use of the App means you acknowledge the updated policy.
